Ceiling Soffits - Designs and Ideas
Custom Interior Soffits Made Extraordinary!
Whether you’re living in Chicago or anywhere else in the world, residential remodeling can be quite a bit of a dilemma if you don’t know much about construction. As an example, you may have heard of the word “soffit” a few couple of times but have never figured out what it is, how it looks, and where it is located.
To put it simply, a soffit is a part of the ceiling that is dropped a few inches lower than the area around it. It is most commonly built under the extended part of the roof to provide air circulation without exposing your rafter beams to the weather’s changing conditions. Some house designs omit the presence of eaves but soffits can still be built on many different locations: under the stairs, porches, and arches - basically anywhere in your house that has a visible ceiling. In traditional residential interior design, soffits were built a few inches away from the wall and stopped at the same height as the overhead cabinets in the kitchen. This construction technique has proven to be timeless as it is still used to emphasize kitchens up to this day.
Here at Wolford Construction, we don’t just focus on defining a certain space or room in your home, condominium unit, or commercial building - we give it its own and unique character. As an advocate of innovation, we have developed new construction methods in creating soffits that can give your ordinary ceiling the classy improvement it needs.
Although soffits are most commonly built as a dropped square or rectangle from a room’s ceiling, its construction is not limited to these two shapes alone. It can vary in sizes, forms, and even in locations. A custom interior soffit doesn’t need to be installed only in the kitchen like it’s traditionally built for. Every corner of your home can be highlighted with a nice touch of an additional
construction of a soffit. In the image below, a curved and layered soffit is situated right on top of the entry leading down to a lower level, making it easier for the residents (and guests!) to locate the access to that space.
Usual soffit construction can seem to be creatively restricting at times so why not go the extra mile? Why not give your kitchen a little more edge with a single-layered, curved soffit like this sample below!
And lastly, we don’t just add the soffit for the sake of it. We go crazy and think out of the box! A curved soffit alone can surely call anyone’s attention, but why not highlight it with the use of a complementing color to your ceiling and walls? In this image below, we went on and picked a color that frames the space from the whole room. The addition of the spotlights definitely gave it more definition!
